Associate Director – Drainage & Infrastructure

Are you a Senior Drainage and Infrastructure Engineer looking for the next step in your career or for a new challenge?

Due to our ongoing success, we have a great opportunity for an Associate Director of Drainage & Infrastructure to accompany our team on a wide variety of interesting and challenging projects. You will have a large involvement in both new build and refurbishment projects, working from early planning to end delivery phase.

Role and responsibilities

  • Manage a team of Engineers and Technicians to deliver high quality output in accordance with Client deadlines and requirements.
  • Be a Team Leader for the Drainage and Infrastructure Team, providing day-to-day HR assistance and management.
  • Liaise with Clients to assist in developing briefs and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop conceptual designs and be actively involved with all projects under your direction.
  • Apply Eurocodes, British Standards, current Construction (Design and Management) (CDM) Regulations, and other design codes/information as appropriate.
  • Demonstratable technical ability and design experience on matters of estate infrastructure, roads, and drainage design.
  • Manage resources for projects under your supervision.
  • Assist with the overall management of the company and attend monthly management meetings and weekly workload meetings with the rest of the management team.
  • Manage the team’s workload and programming of upcoming projects.
  • Represent the company at Client meetings.
  • Develop a Client base and attend networking events to promote the company.
  • Prepare fee estimates and quotes and manage commercial aspects of the team.
  • Contribute to business development activities and marketing as required for the benefit of Stirling Maynard.
  • Undertake appropriate Continuing Professional Development and maintain CPD records in accordance with the requirements of the Institution of Structural Engineers and/or the Institution of Civil Engineers.


  • Appropriate academic qualifications, preferably a degree in engineering or a relevant science.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in drainage, highways and infrastructure design.
  • Experience at managing a team and delivering high quality projects.
  • Experience of S38, S278 and S104 applications, flood risk assessments and drainage strategies.
  • Use of AutoCAD and MicroDrainage/FLOW, and familiarity with PDS and Civil 3D is desirable, but not essential.

The salary is £55k to £65k depending on experience.
