Anyon Bridge Replacement

Design and detailing of replacement of a dilapidated farm access bridge over the River Rase in Lincolnshire, used by the Environment Agency for maintenance of flood defences. Work carried out on behalf of JBA Bentley JV. The existing bridge was on the point of collapse and the EA took the decision to replace the structure. The new superstructure was a steel and concrete composite bridge, designed to carry vehicles up to 44 tonnes gvw, as well as a range of specific tracked plant used by the EA. To save money the new bridge was installed onto the original foundations which were investigated and showed no sign of historic movement, and so the bridge could be installed with relatively minor modifications to the bearing area, including the construction of a curtain wall behind the bearings at each end.
