HCC Car Park Monitoring

Hertfordshire County Council contacted Stirling Maynard because they had concerns with the condition of the original section of their Multi-storey Car Park at County Hall. Stirling Maynard were initially appointed to carry out an assessment of the structure but due to structural concerns with the deck bearing shelf and the continued deterioration in the concrete decks with extensive cracking, spalling and evidence of reinforcement corrosion present on the concrete surface a 3 monthly monitoring programme was set up. Monitoring commenced in January 2019 comprising a condition survey of the deck and deck bearing shelf along with a deck soffit level survey to record the increasing deflection of the decks. The condition of the structure has reached the stage where propping of the decks is now recommended, and the Council have begun the process to implement this recommendation. In the meantime, monitoring is continuing
