Winteringham to South Ferriby FAS

This scheme was commissioned by the Environment Agency to protect the villages of South Ferriby and Winteringham from tidal flooding from the river Humber. On behalf of JBA Bentley JV Stirling Maynard designed reinforced concrete floodwalls alongside Weir Dyke, connecting into a new reinforced earth embankment and the A1077 Sluice Road bridge. At sluice road bridge we designed a reinforced masonry parapet to provide the required level of flood containment and uprate the existing parapet to meet current vehicle collision load standards for the bridge structure. The design was complicated by the presence of numerous services in the road. At either end the new parapet wall connected into demountable flood barriers to be installed in the event that a flood risk is identified.
